Following a successful audition, musicians are placed in one of three orchestras:
Allegro – an introductory level string orchestra. Students are expected to read music, follow a conductor, and have a working knowledge of all strings and finger patterns. Approximate Suzuki level 2-3. Rehearsals are Monday evenings 6:30-8 pm, with additional sectionals and dress rehearsals as scheduled.
Philharmonic – an intermediate symphony orchestra comprised of advancing string, wind, brass and percussion students. Players are expected to be comfortable with advancing techniques (string players shifting) , and to be able to play in various keys and with more advanced bow or articulation techniques. Approximate Suzuki level 3-5. Rehearsals are Monday evenings 6:30-8 pm, with additional sectionals and dress rehearsals as scheduled.
Symphony – NVYO’s most advanced student orchestra is made up of highly capable string, wind, brass and percussion players under the age of 21. Musicians are expected to have developed an advanced range and tone, and be able to play in any key. Vibrato, alternate clef reading, and/or other advanced techniques are required, as music is selected from the standard Symphonic repertoire. Rehearsals are Monday evenings 6:30-8:30 pm, with additional sectionals and dress rehearsals as scheduled.
