Symphony, directed by Kevin Sütterlin, is NVYO’s most advanced student orchestra, made up of highly capable string, wind, brass and percussion players under the age of 21. Musicians are expected to have developed an advanced range and tone, and be able to play in any key. Vibrato and/or other advanced techniques are required, as music is selected from the standard Symphonic repertoire. Participants have opportunities to work with and play in side-by-side performances with area professional musicians. Seating is determined by what works best for the orchestra, and rotates as necessary. Wind and brass players tend to rotate parts with each piece; string players rotate seating with each concert. An audition is required, which will include a prepared solo, scale, and provided excerpts.
Rehearsals are Sunday evenings 6:30-8:30 pm, with additional sectionals and dress rehearsals as scheduled.
Rehearsals are held at Empire Arts Center for 2017-18. Tuition for the season: $250.
